About Ayo Awosika
A classically trained vocalist, Ayo has transferred her aptitude for opera and art song to the world of jazz and beyond. Early on in her career, she had the opportunity to learn from jazz greats like Ellis Marsalis, and Art Lande. She has also had the privilege of sharing the stage with the likes of Richie Havens, Peter Eldridge of The New York Voices, bassist/singer Esperanza Spalding, and members of Tower of Power. Ayo has mixed her love for the complexity of jazz and soul with the honesty of folk and roots music, working to find the place where these worlds meet in her songwriting. Now living in New York City, she splits her time between performing and teaching. Ayo is currently working on her debut full length album with Grammy award winning producer, Scott Jacoby – set to be released in the spring of this year.

“Voicemail,” a poem by Charity Stebbins.

Filmed on Brooklyn, NY rooftop.

Lyrics: Charity Stebbins
Music: Alaina Ferris
Director, Producer, Editor: Steven Harrington
Camera: Brooks Lockwood and Carlos Varas
HMU: Hilary Whitham
Mixing and Mastering: Tyler Gilmore and Alaina Ferris
PA: Francesco Marchione

Lyrics:
I will sing you the song I was singing yesterday
Having you here, an instrument out of its case
Walnuts kowtowed by the sun on your roof
Underneath the bath runs, but no one’s in the room.

Insects run out by the rug over tile
Uncapped lotion sits on the furnace ledge
Myth a story you cannot leave
Story being only when its left.

And behind your voice descants of radio
The important thing was that we had no rehearsal
Collections of sleep are crowding low
Crowding low.

We’ll be performing songs from our EP, along with new originals, tonight at Rockwood Music Hall.

‘I Shut My Eyes’ Kickstarter by Steven S. Harrington

Small Dream Ada and Steven S. Harrington have been collaborating for years on projects ranging from promotional photography to live performance videos and a music video. Each of their past projects have been produced, shot, edited and released without a single dime. This time around we need your help.

Follow the link and help support our project!

Cover of Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Video Games’ by Steven Harrington. Originally performed for Van Cougar‘s TUBE at Incubator Arts Project. Additional Credits: Brooks Lockwood Director of Photography, Carlos Varas Camera, Hilary Whitham Hair and Makeup, Tyler Gilmore Mixing and Mastering, Francesco Marchione Production Assistant.

[Tyler Gilmore]  is lending his innovative composing and arranging skills to indie chamber group Small Dream Ada, which is highlighted by Alaina Ferris‘s stunning vocals.

On Ninth and Lincoln’s last effort, Static Line, leader and composer Tyler Gilmore moved away from the standard big-band form and went in a different direction, one inspired by twentieth-century composers and minimalism. Now he’s lending his innovative composing and arranging skills to indie chamber group Small Dream Ada, which is highlighted by Alaina Ferris‘s stunning vocals. The Apollo Chamber Brass Quintet and Ninth and Lincoln guitarist Matt Fuller and vibraphonist Greg Harris also contribute to Ada’s four-song EP, resulting in textural elements similar to those found on Static Line that work remarkably well with Ferris’s singing. At times ethereal and dreamy, Golden Propeller is a gorgeous collaboration. – Jon Solomon

Last week, we went on a music video location scout with Brooklyn filmographer Steven S. Harrington for our song “I Shut My Eyes,” featured on our forthcoming EP.

While scouting, we decided to take some photographs the amazing dress made Joanna Baum, owner Sir by Joanna Baum.

The dress was made specially for Small Dream Ada’s pre-release party at Rockwood Music Hall on August 13th, 2012.

Thank you, Joanna!

JACK BUMP — DEAD PLAYWRIGHT
a selection from the oeuvre
tastefully curated and preformed (sic) by Los Curatoreadores del Teatro Pequeño

“The priapic playwright Jack Bump wrote naughty, sexual romps that weren’t
quite coherent, but had a crazy fervor, a cross between Benny Hill and Harold
Pinter, and a large cock was almost always an important character.”
—Jonathan Ames, Paper Magazine

“The first time I saw Jack Bump, I was truly frightened. He was spitting out little
plastic baby dolls and pantomiming sexual acts while dressed like a priest.”
—Erin Courtney, playwright
